Two Year Check Up

Marilu and I took Ryker to Dr. Sepe for his check-up. The stats are: 35 1/2 inches tall (75%) and 26 lbs (25%) and head is 49 cm (this last one means nothing to me). However, based on his current height - presuming he continues along this path - he should be about 5' 10". That would be nice considering Andrew and I are both pretty short...

As far as his development goes, his vocabularly is easily over 100 words but we haven't counted them. I'd guess that 70% are in Spanish, the rest English. Spanish is just easier to pronounce. He understands both equally. He runs, jumps, climbs, kicks balls, up/down steps, colors, stacks blocks, follows 2 step commands, is pretty much toilet trained (we're down to underpants and pull ups only at night). There are still accidents, but only every several days.

He has definitely discovered the word "NO!" and the associated bad attitude but pretty much only when he's tired or hungry so by addressing those issues, it is possible to quickly end the tantrum. He'll tell me when he's hungry (rubbing his tummy and saying "yum" and going to his chair) or tired (grab my hand and take me to his bed and say "night night").

He loves books, cars, trains, balls, his tricycle and firetruck scooter. His favorites at the park are the swing, rope ladders, slide and firetruck. It is almost impossible to get him out of the water - sprinkler, sink, bath, pool, creek, puddle - you name it!

Ryker's Party

We celebrated Ryker's 2nd birthday at Wheaton Regional Park. Thank God I reserved a covered picnic area because it POURED! The carousel was still operational, but the choo choo train was closed because it was just too wet. We ordered pizza, had a big cake and a Thomas the Tank pinata. It was a pretty good way to celebrate on a very rainy day. The sun finally broke through towards the end of the party, but we literally had little rivers running along side our picnic area. Ryker really understood the concept of "birthday" this year. He sang Happy Birthday and Feliz Cumpleanos and knew that cake comes after the singing...

Ryker turns 2!

I can't believe it's been two years already! Ryker spent the day with Tia Marilu and Jaeden. They went to the park. Marilu made cupcakes for him and got him a Thomas the Tank engine and little train set. I got him a 4 wheel scooter that looks like a firetruck, complete with lights and sound. He did NOT want to go to bed but insisted on playing with his toys- until 9:30 pm, an unheard of hour for him... AVO knit him a beautiful sweater with "choo choo" trains on the front. Anker got him Tintin in Tibet (one of our favorites growing up) and Dr. Seuss stories from his cousins.

Zoe's 4th Birthday

We went to Zoe's birthday party in Rock Creek. Ryker had a great time throwing stuff in the creek, playing in the dirt, running under the rainbow, playing croquet, eating cupcakes... He went home and had a big nap afterwards!
